Fall Tree-for-All 2009 Last Saturday was the first breath of fall air in Baton Rouge and it provided the perfect backdrop for Baton Rouge Green's Fall Tree-for-All 2009. The Entergy Office parking lot at 5564 Essen Lane was a festive spot, complete with trees for decorations, entertainment, and outstanding food and drink for all who attended.
Nearly 700 trees were sold at great discounts to residents of the greater Baton Rouge area, making our city a bit greener, once again.
Many thanks go out to all who helped make this successful sale possible. Entergy provided us once again with the perfect location for the sale, as well as lots of manpower (ABC Tree Service) for set up and tear down. ExxonMobil set up their large tent for us. Diesel Driving Academy donated a large truck and driver to assist in moving the trees to the location of the sale. McDonald's cooked breakfast for our volunteers and CocaCola provided drinks for everyone. David Ellison recruited jambalaya king Pete Hymel to cook lunch for everyone.
Our knowledgeable "tree experts" answered over 150 questions about the placement and care of trees. Thanks to Wade Dubea and Epney Brasher from the Lousiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry, Kurt Ducote of Ducote's Tree Service, Jimmy Culpepper of Greener Trees, Steve Hoover and John Deen of Entergy, Hunter Guidry of Compliance Consultants and Steve Shurtz, Department of Public Works. Thanks go out to LSU's Hilltop Arboretum for loaning us their wagons for the day.
Cajun band Steve Bing & The Bayou Hot Shots and the Lagniappe Dulcimer Society kept us entertained. Jeff Shaw of Gulf South Solar brought a solar-powered generator to power up the band!
In addition, Baton Rouge Green board members and 33 community volunteers were on hand to work as tree movers, cashiers, and tree loaders!
Members received a 10% discount on all tree purchases. If you were unable to get your trees at this sale, we'll have more to offer after the first of the year and plans are already in the works for Fall Tree-for-All 2010!
The Fall Tree-for-All Sale is NeighborWoods Month event. NeighborWoods is a national initiative of the Alliance for Community Trees with support from the Home Depot Foundation.
